BORN EVIL

Investigation Discovery Docu-Series – 2024

Associate Producer · Story Development · Visual Direction

OVERVIEW

Contributed to both the narrative development and visual direction of a true crime docu-series, supporting the transformation of raw footage into a cohesive, character-driven story. She worked across post-production and creative to ensure alignment between editorial storytelling and final visual presentation.

EXAMPLE 1: STORY DEVELOPMENT & EDITORIAL STRUCTURE

Played a key role in shaping narrative structure through detailed interview indexing and soundbite selection. Reviewed and analyzed interview footage, identifying key moments that would drive story, character development, and emotional impact across episodes.

Key Contributions

  • Indexed interviews with precise time stamps, highlighting strong narrative moments and usable soundbites
  • Mapped soundbites within the edit to support story flow, pacing, and clarity
  • Provided context and rationale for placement, ensuring each moment supported the overall narrative arc
  • Collaborated closely with editors and director to refine story structure and align with creative vision

INTERVIEW INDEXING & SOUNDBITE MAPPING

Structured interview indexing used to identify key soundbites and guide narrative flow within the edit.

EXAMPLE 2 : KEY ART & VISUAL COHESION

Collaborated on the development and refinement of key art for Hulu and Max, ensuring consistency between the visual identity of the series and its underlying narrative themes.

Key Contributions

  • Partnered with design and creative teams to refine imagery, composition, and overall aesthetic
  • Ensured consistency across key art and digital platform assets
  • Bridged story and design to maintain a unified creative vision across content and marketing

Supporting a cohesive series identity

Investigation Discovery made the key art on the left and sent to Bay Films for review. It’s a great visual but the coloring does not match the color grading, or the other graphics within the series. Born Evil leaned heavy into saturated, neon cool tones. This key art is the first thing viewers see when browsing for their next show on Max and Hulu. As you can see in the image below, a quick search on Hulu will show that many crime documentaries use the same orange and red sepia tone. I suggested we switch the graphic to the neon cool tones we were using in the doc to create more cohesion and also stand out from the rest of the crime docs.
